Due to the Covid-19 pandemic that quickly spread across the globe my original pitch which was due to take place during the Easter break in Tenerife I could not go ahead with this project.
January 2020 coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan China quickly spread across the globe. The UK had their first confirmed case on the 31st of January within the next months the virus spread quickly throughout the UK as the deaths mounted the virus was declared a pandemic. Due to the nature of the virus which was easily contagious people the UK and many other countries when into lockdown, schools, retail, hospitality sectors and more shut their doors and closed down, people isolated and quarantined themselves as key workers continued to work and support the country through ever increasing scary and confusing times.
As I myself am quarantined inside in a small village and travel out of the area currently isn’t allowed it became difficult to create a subject to photograph. During lockdown, we are allowed outside once a day to exercise or go on walk. I will be using this one walk to create photograph the area. I took the time to take in my surroundings and the effects of coronavirus the empty streets, the shut shops, the families working together inside, the support for the NHS and what I encounter along the way much in a candid social documentary style. I have set up interviews with key workers from care homes, schools and food services, people working from home, school students, those with mandatory 12-week quarantine letters, and parents dealing with working from home, providing childcare and education. I hope to highlight the struggles the coronavirus has brought to our society whilst also showing the glimmers of hope throughout a period we will never forget.
