This week we looked a different types of photojournalism. I was most interested in the documentary style photojournalism.
Documentary styles includes –
- Social
- Industrial
- Street/Candid
- Documentary Portraiture
Between these categories I think I would be most interested in Social or Portraiture.
For my final project I have had a few ideas:
- Brits Abroad – this could be a social documentary style or a street/candid style, it could include photography of what is considered a stereotypical british tourist and their activities. It could also include those who live and work abroad as well as those who are just on holiday which has the potential to be a comparative piece. Taking these pictures in an EU country means I can discuss and interview people about our recent exit/’Brexit’ from the EU. This could have a comical style with the connotations of ‘brits abroad’ but also has the potential to be a more serious piece with brexit.
- Charity – this could either be a documentary portraiture or social documentary project. I could do portraits of the people at the breast cancer charity where I volunteer at different times of their recovery and after, and/or at events for the charity. I could also do a more candid social style during the work days of the charity or at a specific event.
- Student Life – Living in a big house at university means I could do a social documentary style photography and capture all different times and emotions of the house to capture a reality of the student life – the highs and the lows.
- Protest – There are currently many climate change and global warming protests happening across the country with this I could do a street candid style project at the protests or a portraiture style of specific people at a protest. It could also be interesting to speak to skeptics to add to the project.
- Living with an invisible illness – A piece about people who will struggle with an illness that can not be seen by just looking at someone they will be up close shots of each person with stories about their illness and how it affects their life especially when other people can’t see the illness.
